And the live performance adds a measure of frisson and over the top excitement especially in the final two movements. Recorded in the same hall in Tokyo,known for its acoustic excellence, as were the Eighths by Celibidache and Wand. Between Wand, Haitink (VPO), Karajan (VPO) and Skrowaczewski, an embarrasment of riches. These maestros are most definitely in the pantheon of great interpreters.
